Docomomo International Announces Upcoming Publication of Preserving Modernism.
Docomomo International’s latest newsletter announced the upcoming release of Preserving Modernism: Post-War Curtain Wall Renewal. Co-edited by AYON Studio Principal Angel Ayón and Chair of Docomomo International Uta Pottgiesser, Preserving Modernism is scheduled for publication by Birkhäuser on October 18, 2026.
A follow-up to Reglazing Modernism: Intervention Strategies for 20th-Century Icons, the new volume shifts from a concise history of the modern curtain wall to twenty in-depth case studies from North America and Europe, including including 330 Madison Avenue (Kahn & Jacobs, 1964) and Penn 2 (Charles Luckman and Associates, 1968) in New York to Royale Belge Building in Brussels (René Stapels & Pierre Dufau, 1970) and the GalFa Tower in Milan (Melchiorre Bega, 1959) – and analyzes rehabilitation, overcladding, and replacement as primary intervention strategies for curtain wall renewal.
